Back and Neck Pain

Management

Clear, evidence-informed care to reduce pain, restore movement, and build long-term confidence.

Evidence-informed care to help you move with confidence

Back and neck pain are among the most common musculoskeletal complaints we see in clinic, and in the wider population. While these symptoms can be painful and limiting, they are almost always manageable with the right approach.

At The Physio Box, we combine thorough assessment, hands-on techniques, movement retraining, and tailored exercise to reduce pain, restore mobility, and help you return to training, work, and everyday life.

How Common Is Back & Neck Pain?

Low Back Pain

  • Globally, up to 80% of people experience low back pain at some point in their life.

  • At any given time, around 39% of adults report low back pain lasting at least a day.

  • Most episodes improve rapidly, especially with active rehabilitation.

Neck Pain

  • Neck pain affects approximately 30-50% of adults annually.

  • It’s one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, particularly in physically active populations.

Despite their prevalence, serious underlying pathology (e.g., fracture, infection, tumour, neurological compromise) is rare:

  • Less than 1% of back pain cases are caused by serious pathology.

  • In neck pain, red-flag pathology accounts for a similarly low proportion of cases.

This means that in the vast majority of cases, pain is due to soft tissue, and joint dysfunction, movement variability, and musculoskeletal load issues not structural “damage.”

Physiotherapy focuses on finding what matters to you and what’s actually driving the pain, rather than fixating on scary language like “wear and tear” or “degeneration.”

What We Address

Our Back & Neck Pain service helps with:

  • Muscle and joint pain

  • Stiffness and restricted movement

  • Postural strain related to training, work, or lifestyle

  • Recurring “flare-ups”

  • Pain limiting gym training or daily activities

  • Pain that hasn’t responded to rest alone

How We Treat Back & Neck Pain

✔ Detailed Assessment

We look beyond the pain to understand:

  • Movement patterns

  • Strength and flexibility

  • Training techniques

  • Ergonomics and posture

  • Pain behavior and aggravating factors

This informs a personalised plan that targets what is actually relevant to your pain.

✔ Hands-on Techniques (if appropriate)

Manual therapy can provide short-term relief, reduce stiffness, and allow you to move more comfortably. Best results occur when manual approaches are paired with active rehabilitation.

✔ Tailored Exercise & Movement Retraining

Exercise can be one of the most effective interventions for back and neck pain. We focus on:

  • Strength and control

  • Movement confidence

  • Functional tasks relevant to your goals

Exercises are individually progressed, not generic.

✔ Education & Reassurance

Understanding your pain helps reduce fear and improves outcomes. We provide clear explanations about:

  • What your pain likely means

  • What movements are safe

  • Why certain activities help recovery

✔ Return to Training & Injury Prevention

We don’t just “patch up” symptoms. We help you build resilience so you can train smarter and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

Why Physiotherapy Helps

Research shows that:

  • Early active rehabilitation leads to faster recovery and fewer recurrences.

  • Exercise-based care improves function more consistently than rest or passive therapies alone.

  • Education and graded return to activity reduces fear-avoidance and improves your confidence.
